El neoprofesional Alessandro Fedeli (Delko Marseille) fue el vencedor y primer líder del Tour de Ruanda -que estrena categoría 2.1 UCI- entre Kigali y Rwamagna al ser el más rápido. David Lozano, 17º, fue el mejor de los dos españoles junto a Pablo Torres.
Bona Uwizeyimana (Benediction Excel Energy), Florian Hudry (Interpro), Rohan Du Plooy (ProTouch) y Moise Mugisha (Ruanda) fueron los primeros fugados de la prueba, neutralizados a 10 del final. Astana hizo el trabajo pero fue el italiano de 22 años el que se estrenó en la máxima categoría.
