David Gaudu (Groupama FDJ) se ha impuesto en la tercera etapa del Tour de Romandía, de 160 kilómetros con inicio y final en la localidad suiza de Romont. El pequeño escalador francés de 22 años ya demostró que tiene una interesante punta de velocidad al terminar segundo en la primera etapa, solo por detrás de Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma). El esloveno, en esta ocasión tercero, sigue líder en la clasificación general con seis segundos sobre el propio Gaudu.
Kenny Elissonde (Sky), Nikita Stalnov (Astana), Lennard Kämna, Michael Storer (Sunweb), Jan Tratnik (Bahrain Merida) y Roland Thalmann (Selección suiza) han formado la fuga del día, que ha sido neutralizada por el pelotón al ritmo de los Jumbo-Visma y los Education First cuando restaban unos 17 kilómetros para la llegada, ya en la última vuelta del circuito. Ha intentado sorprender Thomas de Gendt (Lotto Soudal) en el tramo final, pero el gran grupo no le ha dejado margen sabedor de que es un ciclista peligroso cuando rueda en solitario.
En una llegada situada en ligera cuesta arriba, Gaudu ha sido el más fuerte por delante de Rui Costa (UAE Emirates) y de Roglic, que han entrado en un grupo de cinco unidades, mientras por detrás el pelotón se ha roto en pedazos. El francés ha logrado la primera victoria de su carrera en una prueba del UCI World Tour, la segunda como profesional después del parcial que sumó en el Tour de l’Ain en 2017. Es además el octavo triunfo para su equipo, el Groupama FDJ, también el primero en la máxima categoría.
La próxima etapa
La cuarta etapa del Tour de Romandía está considerada como jornada reina de la 73ª edición de la prueba suiza. De 176 kilómetros entre Lucens y Torgon, cuenta con cinco puertos puntuables: Sorens (3.8km al 6.3% de pendiente media), Jaunpass (5.9km al 8.1%), Saanenmöser (7.4km al 4.5%), Col des Mosses (13.1km al 4.1%) y Torgon (10.3km al 6.5%). La última subida acoge la meta y será determinante en la lucha por la victoria parcial y la clasificación general.
