4ª Arctic Race: Leknessund se lo lleva todo

Andreas Leknessund (DSM) dio un golpe de mano perfecto en la última etapa de la Arctic Race noruega tras ser  el mejor de la fuga después de 159.1 kilómetros en Trondheim. El noruego de 23 años triunfó en casa destronando al francés Victor Lafay (Cofidis) que no supo digerir la subida exigente del circuito final.

El canadiense Hugo Houle (Israel) -que recortará su lucha con Movistar y Lotto por la permanencia en primera división- y el italiano Nicola Conci (Alpecin) acompañaron al escandinavo en la fotografía definitiva. Ángel Madrazo (Burgos) -24º- fue el primer español en la general.

La fuga del día estuvo finalmente protagonizada por Alessandro Verre (Arkéa), Fabien Grellier (TotalEnergies) y Andreas Leknessund (DSM), ganador de etapa en la última Vuelta a Suiza que no pasaron de los 2 minutos de ventaja siempre bajo el control del Cofidis. Pero en el circuito final Leknessund se fue mientras por detrás atacaron Martin Urianstad (Uno-X), Embret Svestad-Bardseng (Coop) y Thomas Gloag (Trinity Racing) que finalmente fueron engullidos.

Sí se fue más tiempo Nicola Conci que arrastró a sus compañeros Jason Osborne y Kristian Sbaragli, Max Poole (DSM), Alex Zingle (Cofidis) -primer líder-, Dries De Pooter (Intermarché) y Hugo Houle (Israel), tercero en la general. El asceso lo rompió todo y el epílogo se convirtió en un duelo entre Conci y Leknessund resuelto finalmente para el escandinavo que derrotó al enrachado Cofidis.

DECLARACIONES

Andreas Leknessund: «Ayer me sentí bastante mal, así que hoy sólo quería ver cómo reaccionaban las piernas. Quería esperar las vueltas locales. Sólo que seguían lloviendo ataques, así que decidimos que todo el equipo se turnara. Después de un tiempo empecé a sentirme mejor y terminé en un grupo líder de tres. Al principio pensé: esto es un vuelo para salir en la televisión. Realmente no tenía la idea de que lo lograríamos. Mi objetivo era dar una vuelta solo, para disfrutar del público. Está en Noruega, así que conozco a mucha gente de aquí. Pero una vez que me puse en marcha, fui a tope. Sólo empecé a creer en él en la última vuelta, o en realidad en el último kilómetro. Fue muy duro. Esperaba que vinieran por detrás con mucha fuerza, especialmente en la subida, que era más empinada y dura de lo esperado. Pero mis compañeros de equipo me dijeron que todos los que estaban detrás de mí estaban sufriendo, así que eso me motivó. Es muy bonito, sobre todo después de lo de ayer. Crecí en Tromsø, muy al norte. Esta es mi carrera de casa. Vi esta carrera cuando era pequeño. Es una de las razones por las que empecé a practicar el ciclismo, es increíble».

Hugo Houle: «Estoy muy contento con la forma en que he corrido aquí toda la semana, y también con la forma en que hemos corrido como equipo. Un gran agradecimiento a todos los chicos del equipo, teníamos un buen grupo aquí y sin ellos, este resultado no habría sido posible. Es otro buen resultado y lo he hecho lo mejor posible, así que estoy contento. Todo el día fue muy rápido. Ha sido realmente caótico al principio, con muchos ataques, hasta que la escapada finalmente se ha ido. Leknessund merecía ganar hoy, estaba muy, muy fuerte. Nos esforzamos mucho por traerlo de vuelta en el circuito final y pensé que tal vez podríamos hacerlo después de que hubiera hecho un esfuerzo tan grande, así que un gran aplauso para él. En cuanto a mí, en la segunda subida íbamos bastante rápido y vi la oportunidad de atacar y me las arreglé para escaparme con otros seis chicos, entre ellos tres de Alpecin – Deceuninck, así que teníamos un grupo bastante bueno y pudimos ir con unos 40 segundos de ventaja sobre el pelotón. En ese momento, supe que era bueno para mí, ya que todavía teníamos a Carl y a Krists detrás para jugar sus cartas. Hice lo que pude en la última vuelta. Alpecin me atacó en la última subida y si hubiéramos permanecido juntos, creo que podríamos haber ido a por la victoria».
