Federico Zurlo (Giotti Victoria-Palomar) se ha impuesto en la cuarta etapa del Tour de Japón (2.1), de 123.6 kilómetros con salida y llegada en Minamishinsu, mientras que el australiano Benjamin Hill (Ljubljana Gusto Santic), ganador de la segunda etapa, sigue líder en la clasificación general. El italiano ha sido el más rápido en una llegada de unos 30 ciclistas y ha batido en la volata a Raymond Kreder (UKYO), vencedor el día anterior y que se ha tenido que conformar con la segunda plaza, Nicholas White (BridgeLane), tercero, y al propio Hill, cuarto.
Zurlo, de 25 años, no ganaba como profesional desde el Tour del Lago Qinghai chino en 2016 cuando defendía los colores de Lampre-Merida en el World Tour. Un año después pasó a formar parte del UAE Team Emirates, también en la máxima categoría, pero en 2018 bajó a Continental con el MsTina-Focus antes de fichar por el Giotti Victoria, que suma dos triunfos en 2019 tras el que logró Riccardo Stacchiotti en la primera etapa del Giro de Sicilia.
El coruñés Pablo Torres (Interpro Cycling Academy) ha cruzado la línea de meta en sexta posición como mejor español, con el mismo tiempo que el ganador y Benjamì Prades (UKYO), octavo, Salvador Guardiola (Kinan), 11º, Marcos García (Kinan), 15º, José Vicente Toribio (Matrix Powertag), 16º, y Francisco Mancebo (Matrix Powertag), 17º, mientras que Joan Bou (Nippo Vini Fantini Faizanè) ha sido 37º a 50 segundos.
La próxima etapa
Sin cambios en la general y con los 27 primeros en el mismo minuto, el Tour de Japón se decidirá el viernes 24 en la tradicional y particular etapa reina de la carrera. Serán solo 36 kilómetros y con final en el mítico Monte Fuji (11.6km al 10%) a 1.968 metros de altitud.
