A Mikel Landa le faltaron 200 metros para lograr la victoria en la 5ª etapa del Tour de Suiza. La distancia que bien aprovechó Diego Ulisssi para imponer su explosividad e ir enderezando el maltrecho rumbo del UAE Emirates superando a Enric Mas que eleva sus aspiraciones a una general que pasa a encabezar Richie Porte.
El vasco del Movistar atacó desde el grupo en pos de los brevemente fugados Carthy (exCaja Rural) y Bidard a los que dejó fácil de rueda. En busca los galones para el Tour de Francia y con Nairo Quintana agazapado en el grupo, el español lo intentó hasta el final, pero una vez más el grupo calculó perfectamente la diana que no dejó escapar Ulissi con un Mas que fue el mejor de todos los demás en el selecto grupo de elegidos.
El día fue ideal para las fugas y fueron Silvan Dillier (AG2R), Daniel Oss (Bora), Jasper Stuyven (Trek), Willem Smit (Katusha), Lawrence Warbasse (Aqua Blue Sport) y Paul Ourselin (Direct Energie) los que alcanzaron tres minutos de renta máxima. En el alto de Montana el campeón de Estados Unidos, Warbasse se fue solo mientras que desde el gran grupo salieron Omar Fraile, José Joaquín Rojas, Lilian Calmejane y Roman Sicard alcanzando a Smit y Oss.
Mientras Warbasse seguía a lo suyo, solo Calmejane resistió al pelotón dominado por el BMC de Küng. El galo remachó al americano, pero vio como volvió a la red a 7 kilómetros del final. Fue el momento de Carthy y Bidard y después de Landa, mientras que el líder se quedaba para que su equipo preparara el relevo amarillo para el oceánico Porte –Mas ya es 4º– justo después del éxito de Ulissi, 30º en su carrera profesional después de apuntarse el pasado octubre el Tour de Turquía.
DECLARACIONES
Mikel Landa: “Ha sido un día un poco loco, se ha ido rapidísimo en las dos primeras horas de carrera porque no se hacía la fuga. En la parte final, cuando ya el BMC se ha quedado sin gente para tirar he probado a arrancar desde muy lejos. Ha sido una pena quedarme solo a 200 metros. Da mucha rabia, pero en esa última parte daba mucho aire de cara y han acabado echándome mano. Por otro lado estoy contento porque esto demuestra que estoy por el buen camino. Llevaba mucho tiempo sin competir y estar disputando ya en el quinto día es una buena señal. Vienen ahora dos etapas que también son muy duras y veremos qué corredores se atreven a mover más la carrera, sobre todo la gente que tiene por delante el Tour”.
