La neerlandesa Kirsten Wild vuelve a repetir victoria en una semana inmejorable para la velocista del WNT-Rotor tras el triunfo conseguido en De Panne. Superó en línea de meta a Lorena Wiebes (Parkhotel Valkenburg), segunda, y a la italiana Letizia Paternoster (Trek Segafredo) después de una carrera muy marcada por el fuerte viento de cola y el control de los equipos de las más rápidas que no han dado lugar a las sorpresas.
Tres días después de la victoria en Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne, Kirsten Wild repite y también gana Gante-Wevelgem al final de otro sprint de forma exquisita. La carrera se ha realizado a un ritmo muy alto desde los primeros kilómetros, pero en las seis cotas del recorrido no hubo grandes ataques, por lo que en la final un grupo bastante grande todavía compacto en el que estaban casi todos las velocistas principales.
El Alé Cipollini estuvo muy activo a menos de 50 km con intentos de Trevisi y Kasper, sobre todo tras los pasos por las cotas sin poder abrir distancias importantes, como era el caso en De Panne, la carrera estaba condenada al desenlace al sprint con un duelo a la vista entre neerlandesas, presente y futuro, Kirsten Wild, de 36 años, y Lorena Wiebes de 20.
A pesar de los últimos amagos de llegar en solitario infructuosos de las italianas del Alé, el ritmo del pelotón fue rapidísimo con viento a favor camino de Wevelgem donde la veterana no encontró rival.

La Gante-Wevelgem femenina celebra el domingo 31 de marzo su octava edición, la cuarta de categoría World Tour y quinta prueba del circuito mundial esta temporada, con un recorrido de 137 kilómetros entre Iprés y Wevelgem, localidades de la provincia belga de Flandes Occidental.
El doble paso por el Baneberg (300m al 10% de pendiente media), el legendario Kemmelberg (2.5km al 4.4% y con rampas que superan el 20%) y el Monteberg (1.000m al 7.3%), que se corona a 35km de la llegada, está llamado a romper la carrera. Y, por si no fuera poco, entre medias se atraviesan dos caminos de tierra conocidos como Plugstreets, que conmemoran los combates de la Primera Guerra Mundial y aportarán un extra de dureza.
Entre las participantes se encuentran algunos de los grandes nombres del pelotón femenino: Marta Bastianelli (Virtu), ganadora en 2018), Chantal Blaak (Boels-Dolmans), Marianne Vos (CCC-Liv), Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton-Scott) o Lucinda Brand (Sunweb), entre otras.
En la salida estará el Movistar Team, que contará con las españolas Alicia González, Sheyla Gutiérrez y Gloria Rodríguez, además de las francesas Aude Biannic, 11ª la pasada edición, y Roxane Fournier y la polaca Malgorzata Jasinska.
