Nuevo triunfo australiano en el Tour de Japón (2.1), en esta ocasión para Benjamin Hill (Ljubljana Gusto Santic), que se ha impuesto en la segunda etapa, de 127 kilómetros con salida en llegada en la localidad de Inabe, y es el nuevo líder de la carrera en detrimento de su compatriota Ayden Toovey (BridgeLane). Benjamì Prades (UKYO), quinto en la línea de meta, y Francisco Mancebo (Matrix Powertag), séptimo, han sido los dos primeros españoles, ambos a 13 segundos del ganador.
Hill ha sido el más fuerte en un circuito con una cota puntuable de 1ª categoría (1km al 8,1% de pendiente media) y con un final que picaba ligeramente hacia arriba. En la llegada ha sido más rápido que el checo Adam Toupalik (Sauerland NWR), mientras que el colombiano Orluis Aular (Matrix Powertag), tercero, le ha dado tiempo al segundo grupo, en el que entraron Prades y Mancebo.
Marcos García (Kinan), 11º, Pablo Torres (Interpro), 13º, José Vicente Toribio (Matrix Powertag), 14º, y Salvador Guardiola (Kinan), 17º, han cruzado la línea de meta a 16 segundos del ganador en un tercer grupo, el pelotón principal, mientras que Joan Bou (Nippo Vini Fantini Faizanè), 45º, ha completado la nómina de españoles a 34 segundos.
Hill es el nuevo líder de la general, con solo un segundo de ventaja sobre Toovey y dos más que Toupalik, diferencias escasas todavía. Mancebo, 12º a 25, y Prades, 13º a 26, son los dos mejores españoles de una carrera que se decidirá, como habitualmente, en la corta y espectacular jornada (36km) con final en el Monte Fuji (11.6km al 10%), que se celebrará la madrugada del jueves 23 al viernes 24 en horario español.
