Alberto Dainese (Sunweb) se impuso en la primera etapa del Herald Sun Tour, de 120.7 kilómetros entre las localidades de Nagambie y Shepparton. El joven sprinter italiano estrenó la cuenta de victorias con sus nuevos colores y es el primer líder de la prueba australiana. Kaden Groves (Mitchelton-Scott), segundo, y Moreno Hofland (EF Pro Cycling), tercero, completaron el podio de la etapa.
Se trata de la primera victoria este año para el equipo alemán y la novena para el velocista de 21 años (cumple 22 en marzo), entre las que destaca el Campeonato de Europa sub-23 que conquistó el pasado año en Alkmaar. Dainese confirma en el Sunweb todo lo que apuntó el año pasado con el maillot del SEG Racing Academy y las buenas sensaciones que dejó con dos top 10 en el Tour Down Under y el podio (3º) en la Race Torquay, solo superado por Sam Bennett y Giacomo Nizzolo.
