Cuatro victorias en ocho días y dos del UCI World Tour. Es el saldo de Elia Viviani (Sky) tras ganar la 51° Clásica Bretaña-Oeste Francia (exGP Plouay) después de apuntarse el pasado domingo la Cyclassics en Hamburgo y de llevarse entre ambas pruebas dos etapas del Tour de Poitou Charentes. Un día completo para la escuadra británica con el éxito de Chris Froome en la cima de la Cumbre del Sol. Carlos Barbero (Movistar), 14º, fue el mejor de los españoles en la meta.
Marco Maronese (Bardiani), Oliveiro Troia (UAE), Jacopo Mosca (Wilier), Pierre Rolland (Cannondale), Arnaud Gérard (Fortuneo), Delio Fernández (Delko) y Natnael Berhane (Dimension Data) compusieron la fuga del día que llegó a acumlar más de 8 minutos. Así hasta que Sky y Quick-Step -próximo maillot del italiano- se dedicaron a reducir la ventaja para ahuyentarla a 60 kilómetros de la misma meta donde en la víspera ganó Lizzie Deignan y Sheyla Gutiérrez, sexta.
Troia, Mosca, Rolland, Gérard, Fernández, Martens, Dillier, Devenyns, Vakoc y Geoghegan Hart fue el siguiente grupo destacado, relevado por Dillier y Gautier que tuvieron la compañía posterior de Bettiol, Haas, el neo manchego Carretero, Serry, Calmejane y Simon. Bettiol lo probó a 3 kilómetros del final pero el sprint fue inevitable. El campeón de Europa, Alexander Kristoff, tomó la iniciativa pero Viviani salió por su lado izquierdo para ganar fácil y compensar su derrota en la prueba continental.
Tras la carrera, los belgas Greg Van Avermaet y y el equipo Quick Step mantienen sus lideratos en el UCI World Tour 2017.
