Si hay algo que, sobre una bicicleta, pudiera compararse a una gran obra de arte, eso sería cualquiera de las carreras protagonizadas por Mathieu van der Poel durante las últimas semanas. Tras superar la lesión que le mantuvo alejado de los circuitos durante la primera parte de la temporada, el campeón del mundo no sólo ha demostrado que su estado de forma es superior al de todos sus rivales sino que, además, se ha dedicado a humillar a todos aquellos que han intentado plantarle cara en los circuitos centroeuropeos. Y eso, claro, no iba a ser distinto en la última prueba puntuable para la Copa del Mundo 2015716. La última carrera antes de la gran cita mundialista de Zolder. El GP Adrie van der Poel o, como él lo llama, la carrera de papá. Allá, en Hoogerheide. En su casa. Ante los suyos.
Sobre un circuito durísimo, tremendamente embarrado y con largos tramos a pie, los atractivos de la carrera de hoy eran, principalmente, dos: por un lado, ver si Lars van der Haar era capaz, algo muy improbable, de poner en peligro el triunfo de Van Aert en la general de la Copa del Mundo y, más importante, comprobar si era razonable ser algo más optimista, en lo que a términos de espectáculo se refiere, respecto del mundial del próximo domingo.
Toda duda quedó despejada excesivamente pronto. No tardó ni una sola vuelta Van der Poel en poner tierra de por medio respecto de todos sus rivales. En esta ocasión, ni siquiera le hizo falta lanzar un ataque. Dejar secos en el sitio a sus compañeros en la cabeza de carrera. No. Nada de eso. El campeón del mundo simplemente buscó un ritmo cómodo para él. Nada del otro mundo, aparentemente. Se aposentó cómodamente en su sillín y abrió un hueco que Wout Van Aert, al que hay que reconocerle el empeño, nunca fue capaz de poner en compromiso.
Bajo ese casco con los colores de la bandera belga en un claro guiño hacia su título de campeón nacional, Van Aert ve nublarse enormemente sus aspiraciones de lo que hasta no hace tantas semanas parecía que iba a ser una fiesta por todo lo alto en Zolder. Pero todo cambió cuando el maillot arcoíris volvió a asomar por los circuitos. Toda esa superioridad de la que presumía el belga se esfumó. Sencillamente, pasó de ser el máximo dominador a ser el primero de todos los demás. Porque, como ya sucediera el pasado año, Van der Poel está dando la sensación de tener algo más que cualquier otro rival.
Y lo que podría haber sido una carrera preciosa gracias a la dureza impresionante del circuito se convirtió en (otro) aburrido monólogo de Van der Poel. Aburrido, sí; pero extremadamente bello. Arte sobre ruedas. Sólo así se puede describir el pedaleo gracioso y ágil de este superdotado del ciclocross. Y Van Aert se confomó con el segundo puesto. Qué podía hacer sino rendirse a la evidencia. Y, por detrás, aunque con algo más de pelea entre ellos, el tercer peldaño del podio cayó del lado de Kevin Pauwels, que una vez más estuvo cerca de los mejores, pero lejos de ser el mejor.
Felipe Orts: “Me siento muy fresco de cara al mundial”
Y así terminó la Copa del Mundo. Con un Van Aert en lo más alto del podio, pero sabedor de que siempre quedará sobre esta temporada la etiqueta de que fue la de la ausencia de su gran rival. Con un Van der Poel contento porque sabe que, pese a todo lo ocurrido, es el hombre a batir. Con un público que aplaudió a rabiar a un Sven Nys al que jamás volveremos a ver competir en una carrera de la challenge de la UCI. Y todo eso, en el día en el que en la categoría Sub-23 Felipe Orts volvió a hacernos soñar acabando la carrera en décima posición, algo que le sirvió para finalizar undécimo en la general final. Ahora, tanto el alicantino como el cántabro Kevin Suárez volverán a España para preparar, durante los próximos siete días, la cita de Zolder. Felipe Orts aseguró a Ciclo 21 nada más terminar la carrera que “estoy muy contento con el resultado obtenido ya que hay que tener en cuenta que se trataba de un circuito completamente contrario a mis características. Por ello, este décimo puesto es una gran noticia”. Respecto a esa cita mundialista que ya asoma la próxima semana, Orts comentó que “me siento muy fresco de cara al mundial”.
El ganador en la jornada de hoy, Mathieu van der Poel, reaccionaba nada más cruzar la línea de meta diciendo que “ha sido una semana muy intensa en términos de entrenamiento y eso es algo que, finalmente, ha dado buenos resultados. Ahora creo que puedo descansar un poco más”. Por supuesto, todas las miras están puestas ya en la pelea por el arcoíris de la próxima semana en Zolder. Van der Poel decía que “no diría que soy el único gran favorito porque es una carrera completamente distinta, pero es cierto que el circuito de Zolder es uno que me va muy bien”. Para poder maximizar sus opciones de revalidar su título, Van der Poel quiere “descansar lo más que pueda esta semana y asegurarme la mejor condición para revalidar mi título. Hoy no he tenido un súper día, pero espero tenerlo la semana que viene. ¿Qué toda la presión está sobre mí? Pues sí, pero eso ya ocurrió el año pasado y no lo sufrí demasiado, así que no es algo que me preocupe”.
