Victoria extraordinaria de Alessandro De Marchi en el Giro dell’Emilia 2018. El ciclista friuliano del BMC, 32 años, venció en solitario en el Santuario di San Luca después de una maravillosa acción desde lejos, atacando a más de 20 kms de la línea de meta. El podio lo completan el colombiano Rigoberto Urán (EF Drapac) y el belga Dylan Teuns (BMC).
Inicio movido y marcado por el mal tiempo de viento y lluvia en la ciudad de Bolonia, con numerosos ataques y formación de una fuga después de 18 km, compuesta por ocho corredores: Alberto Bettiol (BMC), Umberto Orsini (Bardiani-CSF), Nicola Bagioli (Nippo-Vini Fantini-Europa Ovini), Ben Swift (UAE), Scott Davies (Datos de dimensión), Robert Power (Mitchelton-Scott), Niklas Eg (Trek-Segafredo) y Viesturs Luksevics (Amore y Vita-Prodir). El pelotón, después de una primera fase de control permitió a los fugitivos una diferencia máxima de unos 10′ de ventaja después de 45 km. Una brecha que disminuía gradualmente en la parte final de la carrera.
En el primer paso en el ascenso de 2kms al duro Santuario di San Luca, inmediatamente se hizo una selección en la grupo delantero: Power, Davies, Bagioli y Orsini, pero sin demasiado recorrido. En la siguiente vuelta lograron marcar la diferencia Matej Mohoric (Bahrein-Mérida) y Alessandro De Marchi (BMC), que abrirían camino hasta el último giro. En el tercer ascenso, De Marchi definitivamente aumentó el ritmo y consiguió hacerse con el mando de la carrera en solitario a falta de 20kms para la llegada. En su búsqueda se formó un quinteto con Mohoric, Diego Rosa (Team Sky), Edward Ravasi (UAE), Alexandre Geniez (Ag2r La Mondiale) y Daniel Martinez (EF-Drapac).
El ciclista del BMC se impuso en el solitario Santuario de San Luca resistiendo el empuje de sus perseguidores. Nada pudo hacer Rigoberto Uran (EF-Drapac), satisfecho con la segunda posición, bien controlada por Dylan Teuns (BMC), tercero en la línea de meta. Quinta victoria para De Marchi a nivel profesional, primera en suelo italiano y colofón a su etapa en el BMC.
