Alexandre Geniez (Ag2r-La Mondiale) se ha llevado el triunfo en un GP La Marsellesa marcado por los muchos y continuos ataques que se fueron sucediendo a lo largo de toda la carrera y que no se detuvieron hasta el último momento. Geniez, de hecho, alzó los brazos después de que dentro de los dos últimos kilómetros el pelotón tuviera que neutralizar los intentos de Jesús Herrada (Cofidis), Lilian Calmejane (Direct Energie) y Remy Di Grégorio (Delko Marseille Provence-KTM).
Antes de que todo esto sucediera en los metros finales, la carrera estuvo marcada por la fuga de Evaldas Siskevicius (Delko Marseille-Provence KTM), Dries De Bondt (Vérandas Willems-Crelan), Brecht Ruyters (Cibel-Cebon), Tom Dernies y Emiel Vermeulen (Roubaix-Lille Métropole), que llegó a contar con una ventaja máxima de seis minutos, que acabó diluyéndose gracias al trabajo de los hombres del Direct Energie y Ag2r-La Mondiale.
Una vez neutralizados, fueron Tony Gallopin (Ag2r-La Mondiale), Lilian Calmejane (Direct Energie) y el propio Geniez los que tomaron una ligera ventaja, pero pronto fueron alcanzados de nuevo por un grupo en el que se fueron sucediendo los intentos de fuga.
En el sprint final, el corredor francés superó a Odd Eiking (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) y Lilian Calmejane mientras que el español de Cofidis, Jesús Herrada, se vio fuera del podio por muy poco.
