Victoria para Diego Ulissi (UAE) en el circuito del GP Città di Lugano. El italiano sentenció la edición 73ª de la carrera suiza al imponerse al sprint en un grupo reducido producido a falta de dos giros por Vincenzo Nibali y que seleccionó en tan solo seis corredores la fuga de la que saldría el vencedor final. Ulissi sería más rápido en meta que su compañero de equipo, el bielorruso Alexander Riabushenko, y al campeón nacional esloveno Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Merida).
En el sureste del país helvético, los organizadores dispusieron de un circuito al que se darían ocho giros. En el cantón del Tesino, de habla italiana, los transalpinos lograron festejar el triunfo del versátil Ulissi, quien fue el más rápido en el sprint que decidió al vencedor de la prueba ciclista.
Ulissi, de 29 años, logró abrir hueco junto a Nibali en la vuelta final. Sin embargo, el ‘Tiburón’ de Messina dejó de colaborar, puesto que era más lento en un posible mano a mano ante el del UAE Team Emirates. Además, detrás perseguía su compañero Matej Mohoric junto a Alexander Riabushenko (UAE), Patrick Schelling (Vorarlberg) y Giovanni Carboni (Bardiani).
En el desenlace, los seis hombres se unieron y Nibali dejó la responsabilidad al resto para permitirle a Mohoric jugarse la victoria. Así fue, pero el esloveno no tuvo nada que hacer ante el dúo de la escuadra emiratí, que se llevó un contundente triunfo, de la mano de Ulissi y Riabushenko, quienes le dieron el 1-2 al UAE.
