El australiano Michael Matthews ganó la décima edición del GP Québec de forma consecutiva. El velocista del equipo Sunweb fue el más determinante en la llegada habiendo escondido sus cartas en los momentos de inflexión de la prueba WorldTour canadiense tomando una actitud pasiva ante los ataques de los favoritos Julian Alaphillipe (DQT) y Peter Sagan (Bora).
Gracias al trabajo de sus compañeros tomó la posición idónea en el sprint final, observando a sus rivales cómo tomaban decisiones precipitadas, Matthews arrancó de forma agresiva y decidida a 200 metros de la llegada sobrepasando a sus rivales sin pestañear con una potencia solo vista en este mismo escenario 365 atrás. Superó nada menos que al tres veces campeón del mundo Peter Sagan y al campeón olímpico Greg Van Avermaet, quienes se cebaron en su apuesta viendo pasar al proyectil aussie por su flanco derecho para hacerse con la segunda victoria consecutiva en Québec y aglutinando un palmarés de 40 victorias profesionales con triunfos en parciales de las tres grandes vueltas entre otras de una semana como Suiza, Binck Bank Tour, París-Niza, Romandía, País Vasco o en el GP Montreal’18, en disposición de repetir en ambas un año después.
El mejor de los españoles fue el catalán Eduard Prades, finalizando en 16ª posición. Anteriormente duraten la carrera los Movistar estuvieron filtrados en varios intentos de fuga tomando éxito en la que estaba presente el mallorquín Lluís Mas.
