Roman Kreuziger (Orica) ha estrenado el palmarés de la durísima prueba austriaca 1.1 UCI, Pro Ötztaler 5.500, que, como su nombre indica, tiene ese desnivel acumulado en 218 kilómetros con salida y meta en Sölden y procedente de una marcha cicloturista. El checo aprovechó el último puerto para descolgar al esloveno Simon Spilak (Katusha) y vencer tras casi 6 horas y medio de esfuerzo. El italiano Giulio Ciccone (Bardiani) completó el podio.
José Manuel Díaz obtuvo un brilante noveno puesto, mientras que su próximo compañero en el Israel, Rubén Plaza, fue uno de los animadores de la carrera.
