Julian Alaphilippe prosigue su semana feliz por Italia con una nueva sonrisa. Tras exhibirse en la Strade Bianche y llevarse la 2ª etapa de la Tirreno-Adriático, el menudo francés del enracahado Deceuninck belga explotó otra veta de su catálogo para apuntarse la penúltima etapa sorprendiendo a todos los velocistas puros en una llegada con una ligera pendiente, pero apta para cualquier especialista. Y Alaphilippe, aprovechando las ruedas de Morkov y Richeze –mientras Viviani esprintaba por el carril- tomá la suficiente ventaja para alzar su rabioso brazo ante Cimolai, el campeón de Italia, el ciclocrossman Venturini y un Peter Sagan que no acaba de encontrar la chispa necesaria.
Antes, a apenas 3 kilómetros del final sucumbieron los dos mejores de la escapada de la jornada -Davide Ballerini y el único español José Joaquín Rojas– que estuvieron todo el día dándose relevos con Dayer Quintana, Mirco Maestri, Gijs Van Hoecke, Igor Boev y Ben King, pero que nunca iban a tener éxito porque su ventaja máxima no pasó de los dos minutos. Bora y Deceuninck ya se encargaron de que los últimos aventureros de esta edición pasaran al anonimato.
No lo hizo un Alaphilippe listo y ratonero que ya suma 6 triunfos en esta campaña y 26 en una carrera profesional que sigue sin tener límites a sus 26 años, uno más el 11 de junio.
DECLARACIONES
Julian Alaphilippe (ganador etapa): «Fue una sorpresa para mí levantar las manos. Trabajaba para Elia [Viviani] y al final estaba a rueda de Max Richeze, que hizo un último y difícil lanzamiento. Vi los 200 metros a meta y partir de ahí, lo di todo. Me alegra haber ganado, pero es realmente una gran victoria de equipo con mucho trabajo todo el día. Controlamos, anulamos la fuga y lo rematamos. Haré la contrarreloj mañana lo mejor que pueda, pero el gran objetivo para mí y para el equipo ahora es la Milan-Sanremo. Tenemos un equipo muy fuerte. No será fácil ganar. Estoy en gran forma. Es fantástico estar en forma para mis metas. Elia también puede ganar si hay un final de sprint en grupo. Tenemos varias cartas que jugar, pero solo un objetivo: ganar el primer Monumento del año «.
Adam Yates (líder): “Las etapas al sprint siempre son difíciles. Muchos equipos estaban nerviosos hoy porque había mucho viento. Pero los compañeros me cuidaron, llegué aquí en una sola pieza y solo queda la contrarreloj. Sigo diciendo que haré lo mejor que pueda y si es lo suficientemente bueno, será suficiente».
