El francés Julien Bernard (Trek-Segafredo), hijo de Jean-François Bernard, estrenó su palmarés profesional, tras cinco años militando en el World Tour –todos ellos defendiendo los intereses del Trek-Segafredo–, al imponerse en la cima de Le Mont Faron, punto y final de la 52ª edición del Tour de los Alpes Marítimos y Var (antiguo Haut Var) colándose, de esa manera, en la fiesta de un Nairo Quintana (Arkéa-Samsic) al que parece haberle sentado tremendamente bien el cambio de aires y que suma sus apariciones por victorias en lo que a vueltas por etapas se refiere en este 2020.
El colombiano, que triunfó en el Col d’Eze hace sólo 24 horas, no ha tenido excesivos problemas para defender su primer puesto en la general y, tras llevarse el primer puesto en el Tour de la Provenza hace sólo una semana, repite gesta en el que es, cuanto menos, uno de los arranques de temporada más ilusionantes para El Cóndor en los últimos años.
Quintana, séptimo en el día de hoy, se ha limitado a mantener bajo control a sus rivales más inmediatos y ha dejado hacer a una fuga en la que se han metido Lars van den Berg (Groupama-FDJ), Julien Trarieux (Nippo Delko), Jesper Schultz (Riwal-Readynez), Julien Bernard (Trek-Segafredo), Adrien Garel (B&B Hotels-Vital Concept), Samuel Leroux (Natura4Ever-Roubaix), Eddy Finé (Cofidis), Kenny Molly (Bingoal-Wallonie-Bruxelles), Nans Peters (Ag2r-La Mondiale), Fabien Grellier (Total-Direct Energie), Reinardt Janse van Rensburg (NTT) y Nicolas Zukowsky (Rally).
De ellos, Bernard fue el más fuerte en la ascensión final, de poco menos de seis kilómetros, para cerrar esta edición de la prueba francesa con un triunfo de etapa.
