El Tour de Antalya llegaba hoy a su etapa final con hasta 17 corredores en un pañuelo de sólo 16 segundos peleando por la victoria en la general final. La igualdad, tras tres jornadas en las que sólo las bonificaciones han decidido el nombre del líder, era tal que 39 hombres se encontraban a menos de dos minutos de un triunfo final que se iba a decidir, como correspondía a esta prueba, en la última volata de la carrera.
Esos muchos intereses cruzados fueron, quizás, los responsables de que, durante los primeros kilómetros de la jornada final, de sólo 136 kilómetros entre Side y Antalya, el pelotón peleara por echar abajo cada uno de los muchos intentos de fuga que se iban produciendo.
Finalmente, tras casi 40 kilómetros de etapa Jonas Rickaert (Alpecin-Fenix), Luca Wackermann (Vini Zabú-KTM) y Martin Toft Madsen (BHS-PL Beton) fueron los tres hombres que consiguieron burlar el control del pelotón, marchándose sin que el pelotón, a sabiendas de que Wackermann (a 1:03 del líder) y Madsen (a 1:48) podían suponer un riesgo importante, les diera muchas opciones y, tras alcanzar una renta máxima de sólo 50 segundos, vieron cómo su aventura acababa neutralizada apenas 15 kilómetros más tarde.
Nada más producirse esa neutralización, fue el turno para otro grupo, esta vez de seis unidades, formado por Vicenzo Albanese (Bardiani-CSF), Samuele Rivi (Tirol-KTM), Arthur Kluckers (Leopard), Serghei Tvetcov (Sapura), Viktor Filutás (Giotti Victoria) y David Per (Adria Mobil). De todos ellos, era el italiano del Bardiani-CSF el que más cerca se encontraba del líder en la general, pero los 2:38 que tenía perdidos al arranque de la jornada hicieron que el grupo les diera un mayor margen que a los anteriores fugados.
Su renta máxima, en cualquier caso, nunca fue superior a los 1:30 y esta intentona también acabó siendo neutralizada a poco menos de 20 kilómetros para la línea de meta.
Ya con el sprint lanzado, fue el campeón belga, Tim Merlier (Alpecin-Fenix) el que supo hacer valer su punta de velocidad para superar a Filippo Fortin (Felbermayr) y Lucas Carstensen (Bike Aid), que completaron el podio de esta jornada final. El británico Maximilian Stedman consiguió mantener el maillot de líder y hacerse con el triunfo en la general final con el granadino Gabriel Reguero, sexto en la general final.
