Davide Ballerini (Androni Giocattoli) se adjudicó el 71° Trofeo Matteotti (1.1 UCI), sobre 195 kilómetros en un circuito de 15 kilómetros alrededor de Pescara. El italiano repitió podio máximo tras ganar la víspera el Memorial Marco Pantani.
Un grupo de 38 hombres -entre ellos Nairo Quintana-se erigió como primer protagonista hasta que el Israel Cycling Academy quiso. Posteriornente se destacó otro colectivo de 35 ciclistas con una ventaja máxima de 3’35” que se fue reduciendo por la labor del Bardiani. Sebastien Reichenbach (Groupama) fue el último superviviente que duró hasta la última vuelta.
O’Connor, Gaudu, Reichenbach, Pozzovivo, Cattaneo y Ballerini lograron destacarse del pelotón para jugarse la victoria y firmar el doblete del italiano.
Movistar tuvo la cara con el secto puesto de José Joaquín Rojas -único español clasificado y la cruz con el cuarto abandono consecutivo de Mikel Landa. Nairo Quintana tampoco ingresó en meta.
