Álvaro Hodeg (Quick-Step Floors) se impone en la primera etapa de la renovada Vuelta a Alemania, tras diez años en el dique seco. El velocista colombiano protagonizó un sprint de menos a más sin un lanzador claro como acostumbra y sorprendiendo desde atrás al favorito en Bonn, Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) que vio como su opción expiraba en la misma línea de meta, tercero fue el italiano Niccolo Bonifazio (Barhain-Merida). Hodeg vence así su quinta etapa del año y suma la 56ª del equipo belga. Jorge Arcas (Movistar Team) fue protagonista por entrar en la fuga del día y lograr bonificar en segundo lugar en un paso intermedio que le permite ser quinto en la clasificación general.
El mes de agosto nos está regalando un duelo en la velocidad punta entre dos jóvenes talentos que está marcando la línea de un futuro prometedor para ambos protagonistas: el colombiano de 21 años Álvaro Hodeg y el alemán Pascal Ackermann, de 24, recogiendo el testigo de ilustres como Andre Greipel o Marcel Kittel. Por ahora aprovechan para destacar en la Vuelta a Polonia y la recién estrenada Vuelta a Alemania. El saldo en suelo polaco fue de 2-1 en cuanto a victorias a favor del alemán pero el colombiano equilibra la diferencia en casa de Ackermann, en un sprint muy diferente al estilo visto en Polonia, marcado por el genuino estilo de la casa Quick-Step Floors, dominando el sprint con un lanzador potente que limpie de rivales a su compañero a rueda, para que el posterior arranque del mismo sea para firmar la rotundidad de su superioridad en la alta velocidad.
En Bonn se ha cambiado la fórmula con igual resultado, con un treno perfectamente definido por parte de Bora para Ackermann, quien ha encabezado los últimos 300 metros aprovechando su potencia confiado por lo demostrado semanas atrás. Hodeg, más vivo, ha visto pasar la película a cámara lenta para reajustar su ataque. Un empuje potente atisbando los mejores espacios le han dado en el último momento para superar a su rival en la misma línea de meta y dejar sin fiesta germana al organizador, al menos en el primer parcial de cuatro que dividen el serial. Así pues le devuelve el envite para vestirse además de líder y enviar un mensaje claro: el pulso se mantiene.
La segunda etapa tendrá un perfil diferente y posiblemente no veremos el duelo de ambos talentos para sumergirnos en el interés por quienes vienen a hacerse con el palmarés de la prueba en 2018.
